| I graduated nursing school on Friday!!! It still doesn't feel like I am done though. Next week I have a 4 day Kaplan NCLEX (my licensure exam) review course, after that maybe it will feel over. I'm sure it will definitely feel over when I start work in September. I am taking the month of August off. Going on a family vacation to Florida where I plan to relax, read, and get a nice tan. After that, it's back to Tulsa for a week, then off to Colorado for 10 days. The day after I get home, I start my job. I will hopefully take my licensure exam around the time I start work. | | |
| So, after interviewing with the Neuro Trauma Surgical ICU and the Adult ICU at St. John, I decided to shadow on the Adult ICU floor. After my shadowing experience on St. Patrick's day, I was offered a position (which I quickly accepted!!). That's one less thing to worry about between now and graduation (July 31st!!!!!). | | |
| An update to the job situation, I have an interview with St. John on Friday with managers for both the neuro/trauma/surgical ICU and adult ICU. | | |
| Woohoo! So, I applied at St. John and St. Francis on Monday and I have already heard back from both! I have an interview at the pink palace (St. Francis) on Monday and as soon as I send in some paperwork I get to set up a meeting with the nurse recruiter at St. John. | | |
| I just went back and read my last post. I was "soooo excited and a little nervous" about my externship in the TEC (trauma emergency center). Well, it turns out that the ER is not the place for me. I'm not quite sure where I want to work now, but I'm guessing it will be some form of ICU or some sort of medical/surgical floor. Most of you are probably thinking "Brooke, you have plenty of time to figure it out, you don't graduate for another 5 months". Wrong! They want us to start applying for jobs now. I'm not going to complain, though, because it is pretty comforting knowing that I will be employed long before I graduate. Ahhhhh job security! | | |
